No post yesterday because I took Mr. to get the last two of his wisdom teeth removed.
The grand total out of pocket for the both the procedure and the painkiller/antibiotics: $28.50
I’ve had friends question why we have all the supplemental insurance that Mr.’s job has to offer, and between the two eye exams, 4 trips to the dentist’s, 6 boxes of contacts and one oral surgery, I think we have spent $100 out of pocket. If we were paying up front, I honestly don’t think we would go to the dentist as often as we should, we’d be putting off our eye exams, etc…

I agree wholeheartedly. I recently was offered insurance at my job, and we could choose to get dental and vision, life etc. The usual mixed bag.
In the end, I chose to get dental and medical on both my girlfriend and myself, but forego the hospital-stay coverage, vision, short-term disability and life insurance (because I’m 23 and unmarried with no kids).
As it turns out, we have used the dental quite a lot, with a root canal within the first month and about eight fillings between the two of us over the next couple of months. Talk about wow! The medical is also coming in handy, as I’ve needed ultrasounds that cost quite a bit of money out-of-pocket (getting them soon).
Not getting the hospital-stay coverage and short-term disability may bite me in the butt though, as it looks like I will probably need to have a polyp removed (1-2 day stay in hosp. plus out of work at least two weeks, and whole shebang is in another state).
Griffins last blog post..No Instant Cures
Every time I try to take less insurance, something horrible ends up happening and i end up kicking myself. I’m so paranoid now that we take almost every supplemental we can get our hands on.
